In Middle School, our Grade Six Grammarians had an in-depth lesson on Africville and what made up the community. The students listened to the audio "Our Home: Africville" made by the Africville Heritage Trust for the lesson.
In the audio, they learned about the layout of Africville, such as the houses, businesses, the church and more buildings that made up the community. It also covered what was brought into the community as residents were pushed out of the community when it was designated as industrial land in 1947.
This was an interactive way for students to learn about what happened to Africville, giving them visual examples of what was taken away from the residents.
