The Mindfulness Club at Grammar was started by alumni parent Stella Balfour in 2018. For six weeks each term, Stella invites high school students to join her on Wednesdays from 11:40 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. where they focus on bringing mindfulness into the classroom and the students’ everyday lives.
Mindfulness is defined by Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn as a practice that involves paying attention in a particular way, to the present moment, purposefully and non-judgmentally, to help manage stress, reduce anxiety and boost focus.
This year, grade 12 student Tryphena Evborokhai chose mindfulness as her focus of study for her CAS project.
"With the final years of high school being so busy, I am so glad Stella was able to offer the club for yet another year. I chose to organize the club as one of my CAS projects because of my experience with it and the ability for students to take the techniques we learn to use for years to come."
CAS which stands for Creativity, Activity and Service is one of the essential elements that every student must complete as part of the IB Program. Thank you to Stella for continuing this program and educating our students on the importance of mindfulness.
