Before the holidays, our Grade Seven Grammarians were treated to a chat with Lieutenant Colonel (ret'd) Susan Beharriell via Zoom. Lieutenant Colonel Beharriell served as an intelligence analyst during the Cold War and was on duty during the Iranian hostage crisis, the shooting down of a Korean Airlines jet in 1983, the first Gulf War, and the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States where she was working for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
As part of her chat with the students, she was happy to share some of her experiences in the Canadian military, including the challenges women faced in the 70's and 80's venturing into a male-dominated field of work and how they broke down barriers. Thank you to Lieutenant Colonel Beharriell for taking the time to tell your incredible story to our students.
