The production of the much-anticipated annual musical is underway at Grammar. This year the senior students will base their performance on of the Broadway musical Newsies set in 1899.
Newsies is about a group of newspaper carriers who take on a big newspaper company by going on strike.
A total of 50-52 students will participate in the show with 20 cast members, 20 pit band members and 10-12 stage crew members.
Auditions were held for the main roles: Jack Pulitzer the male lead will be played by Hunter Hache; Crutchie will be played by Charlie Hunter; Katherine, the young female reporter will be played by Lara Jollimore-Behie; and Davey, Jack’s little brother will be played by Laura Skillen.
Students and staff are currently working hard to rehearse and prepare for the shows on February 13 – 15, 2020. Mary Lou Martin will direct and choreograph the show and teachers Ian Mosher and Shawn Whynot will share the musical direction duties.
Mark your calendars for what promises to be a Tony-calibre performance!
